Salt FC Make It 11 Wins in a Row in SSFL

Salt Futsal Club (FC) have extended their winning run in the 2026 SIFF Super Futsal League (SSFL) to 11 matches following a dominant 7-2 victory over Real Lights FC on Saturday at the SIFF Futsal Court in Honiara.
The Stanley Puirana-coached side now sit comfortably at the top of the standings with 33 points, holding an eight-point lead over second-placed Haura FC.
Speaking to Star Sports, coach Stanley Puirana praised his players for their consistency and commitment throughout the season.
"So far, our performances have been really consistent. Shoutout to the boys for always showing up and putting in a lot of hard work during training. It has really paid off so far," he said.
With the league entering the business end of the season, Puirana knows the challenges will only become tougher.
"Now that we're into the second round of the season, we know every team will be aiming to end our winning run, so we must work even harder for the challenges ahead," he added.
Puirana said his side must remain focused, stick to their style of play, and treat every match like a final if they are to maintain their impressive run.
With only seven matches remaining in the 2026 season, Salt FC are edging closer to securing their first league title, however, Puirana believes there is still plenty of work to be done before they can celebrate.
"As I always say, every team wants to beat us and they are preparing well. For us to keep winning, we have to perform at our very best," he said.
Meanwhile, the SSFL enters Match-week 12 this weekend at the SIFF Futsal Court, with five matches scheduled across Saturday and Sunday.
SWPL GOLDEN BOOT RACE HEATS
UP AT SEASON HALFWAY

The race for the Solrais Women’s Premier League (SWPL) Golden Boot is intensifying as the competition reaches the halfway mark of the season.
The latest scoring figures were confirmed by the SWPL on Tuesday, with Henderson Eels FC forward Ileen Pegi leading the race with an impressive 30 goals.
Pegi has been in outstanding form throughout the first half of the season, consistently finding the back of the net and establishing herself as the player to beat in the race for the league's top scorer award.
Geniagu United FC striker Gracester Kini is Pegi's closest challenger, sitting second on the scoring chart with 24 goals, while Frigates United FC's Keren Kalapai follows closely with 23 goals.
Haura FC also has two players among the leading scorers, with Jeremie Oliver on 14 goals and teammate Claudia Votu on 13 goals to complete the current top five.
With the second half of the SWPL season still to be played, the Golden Boot race remains wide open, with the leading players expected to continue their battle for the prestigious individual award.
Pegi currently holds a six-goal advantage over Kini, but with plenty of matches remaining, the competition for the top-scoring title could go down to the wire.

Fa'arodo Jr. Calls for Investment in Youth Football

Race for SWPL title heats up

The race for the title and individual honours continues to intensify as the football competition reaches the halfway stage of the season, SIFF Media stated in its latest Solomon Islands Women’s Premier League (SWPL) update.
Round 11 produced another exciting weekend of football, with Naha FC recording the biggest victory of the round after crushing West Honiara FC 15-0.
According to SIFF Media, the emphatic win underlined Naha FC’s attacking strength as teams continue their push for the league championship.
In another Round 11 fixture, Geniagu United FC secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Henderson Eels FC.
“Despite a determined performance from Henderson Eels, Geniagu United held on to claim all three points,” SIFF Media said.
Koloale FC also enjoyed a dominant performance, defeating Marist FC 7-0 to complete another convincing result in the round.
Away from the team standings, the battle for the SWPL Golden Boot is also gathering momentum.
SIFF Media said Henderson Eels striker Ileen Pegi continues to lead the scoring chart with an impressive 30 goals.
Geniagu United’s Gracester Kini is second on 24 goals, while Frigates United forward Keren Kalapai sits third with 23 goals.
Haura FC also has two players among the league’s top scorers, with Jeremie Oliver scoring 14 goals and Claudia Votu adding 13.

TROPHY SUPPORT FROM USP ACADEMIC

The Suva Base Islander Futsal League has received a major boost ahead of its Semester Two 2026 competition, with University of the South Pacific (USP) academic Dr. Mapuru donating the official league trophy.
Suva Base Islander Futsal League Organising Committee Secretary Abel Wanesuia told Star Sports from Fiji Monday that the support was acknowledged during a meeting of the organising committee, team captains and representatives on Sunday, 2 August 2026, as preparations continue for the upcoming season.
Dr. Mapuru, a lecturer and Head of the School of Business Management at USP's Laucala Campus, presented the trophy as part of his support for student and community engagement through sport.
The trophy was formally received on behalf of the organising committee by Wanesuia, alongside Sport Chairperson Patrick Junior Tabua.
Wanesuia said the committee appreciated Dr. Mapuru's contribution, noting that the support goes beyond the provision of a trophy and represents an investment in youth development, leadership, teamwork and community engagement among Solomon Islanders living and studying in Fiji.
The league aims to bring together Solomon Islands students from USP, Fiji National University (FNU), other institutions and members of the Solomon Islands working community in Suva.
It seeks to use futsal as a platform to promote unity, friendship, healthy lifestyles and positive engagement among Solomon Islanders in Fiji.
The organising committee has also welcomed Calvy Aoniama, who has accepted an invitation to serve alongside the committee.
Aoniama, who is part of the Solomon Islands working community in Suva, was acknowledged for his willingness to contribute his experience, knowledge and leadership to the development of the league.
The committee said collaboration between students and working professionals would be important in strengthening the competition while creating opportunities for networking and leadership development.
It said the league would provide more than just sporting competition, with the initiative designed to strengthen relationships and foster a sense of identity and belonging among Solomon Islanders in Fiji.
As preparations continue, the committee is calling for further support and partnerships from Solomon Islands students, businesses, community leaders and friends of Solomon Islands in Fiji.
The committee said collective support would be critical to delivering a successful league built around unity, respect and community spirit.
The Suva Base Islander Futsal League is being promoted under the theme: "Building Unity Through Sport."

Sixteen teams register as RSIPF steps up preparations for darts tournament to mark occasion

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has stepped up preparations for its annual Blue Ribbon Day darts tournament after receiving new equipment to support the competition scheduled for September.
According to information released by the RSIPF Media Unit yesterday, the force received two sets of dart equipment from the RSIPF-AFP Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP) during a handover ceremony at Rove Police Headquarters on Thursday.
Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Mathias Lenialu said the equipment will strengthen preparations ahead of the tournament, with one set reserved for the competition while the other will be used by participating teams during training.
“So far sixteen teams of the Honiara-based police officers have already been registered for the tournament,” Lenialu said.
He said the support from RAPPP comes at an important time as officers intensify preparations for the event.
“The tournament will coincide with the Police Blue Ribbon Day on September 29, 2026,” he said.
Lenialu acknowledges RAPPP for supporting the initiative, saying the equipment will assist in engaging police officers through sport as the tournament draws nearer.
The darts championship is expected to involve officers from across Honiara, while police commands in other provinces will organise their own activities to mark Police Blue Ribbon Day.
The handover ceremony also included senior RSIPF executives and RAPPP representatives, who gathered to officially receive the equipment before posing for a group photograph.
Police Blue Ribbon Day is observed annually by police organisations around the world to recognise the service and commitment of police officers.
This year’s RSIPF celebrations will again feature sport as one of the key activities, with the darts tournament serving as a platform to promote teamwork, camaraderie and healthy competition among officers.

Solomon Islands middle-distance runner Stephen Rahuasi has wrapped up his men’s 800 metres campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, as Team Solomon continues to produce determined performances across several sporting disciplines.
An update shared by Iumi Team Solomon highlighted Rahuasi’s effort alongside encouraging results from the national weightlifting, para powerlifting, swimming and boxing teams as the country’s campaign continues on the international stage.
“Team Solomon continues to represent our country with pride, determination and resilience at the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026,” the update said.
Rahuasi finished 29th out of 32 athletes in the men’s 800m, crossing the line in 2 minutes 0.16 seconds. Although the time fell short of his personal best of 1:53.50, which earned him the silver medal at the 2025 Pacific Mini Games in Palau, Team Solomon praised the athlete for his commitment and determination.
“While today’s result was not what Stephen had hoped for, representing the Solomon Islands on the Commonwealth stage is a significant achievement. Every race provides valuable experience and strengthens the foundation for future competitions,” the update said.
The team also acknowledged Rahuasi’s commitment, adding that greater performances lie ahead as he continues his athletics journey.
Elsewhere, weightlifter Jenly Tegu Wini produced one of Solomon Islands’ best results so far, finishing fifth in the women’s 53kg division, while para powerlifter Moffet Tolomae placed 11th on his Commonwealth Games debut after successfully lifting 110 kilograms.
The swimming team also impressed, with Bijay Ghusa Garry setting a new personal best in the men’s 50m butterfly, while Loise Bently recorded personal best performances in both the women’s 50m breaststroke and women’s 50m freestyle during her Commonwealth Games debut.
Team Solomon also commended its young boxing squad for showing “great heart and determination in the ring” despite facing tough international opposition.
Attention now turns to the remainder of the athletics programme and the judo competition, with Team Solomon’s judokas Alister Meideni Sukhamana and Georgina Samo prepare to begin their campaign while Geejay Junior and Leony Pusua are set to contest in the men’s 5,000m event tomorrow.
The delegation thanks supporters throughout Solomon Islands for their continued encouragement, saying the athletes remain focused and proud to represent the country on the Commonwealth stage.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games remain underway in Glasgow, with Team Solomon still to compete in judo and the men’s 5,000m as the national team looks to finish its campaign strongly.

Vanuatu football club Galaxy FC has extended its sincere gratitude to sponsors and supporters in the Solomon Islands for their generosity and support during the club’s international tour.
The club in a statement yesterday said the support, hospitality and belief shown by its Solomon Islands partners had contributed to making the tour a memorable and successful experience.
Galaxy FC specifically acknowledged Hon. Namson Tran, Member of Parliament West Honiara, Diana Detki, Soltuna, Solbrew, FMF and Punjas for their contributions and support.
The Vanuatu club said the support received from its sponsors had helped its players prepare for the challenges ahead as they continue their journey towards the Oceania Champions League.
“Your contributions drive us forward, both on and off the pitch,” Galaxy FC said.
The club also expressed its pride in representing Vanuatu and thanked its partners in the Solomon Islands for standing alongside the team during its visit.
Galaxy FC said it looked forward to strengthening the bonds between the two Melanesian nations through football and continued partnership.

Para powerlifter secures international Athlete Voice Grant to promote inclusion through community art project

Solomon Islands para powerlifter Moffat Tolomae has earned international recognition after being selected as one of only five recipients of the Commonwealth Sport Athlete Voice Grant, a programme that aims to empower para-athletes to drive positive change within their communities.
The achievement was announced in a media release issued by the National Sports Council (NSC), following a visit by Minister for Home Affairs, Reverend Manasseh Maelanga, to the Gather, Adjust, Prepare, Sustain (GAPS) Training Camp at the University of the West of Scotland during the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Tolomae, accompanied by his coach Leslie Ata, represented Solomon Islands at the GAPS Training Camp, an inclusion initiative delivered by Commonwealth Sport to strengthen opportunities for para-athletes and coaches from emerging nations.
According to the release, Tolomae’s project, “MT Art Class,” was chosen from 19 submissions after he was named among the five successful recipients of the Athlete Voice Grant.
The initiative aims to bring together students with and without disabilities through art, creativity and storytelling to encourage inclusion, resilience and a stronger sense of belonging within communities.
“The project will help create opportunities for young people with and without disabilities to connect through creativity while promoting greater understanding and inclusion,” the statement said.
Under the grant programme, Tolomae will receive funding of up to GBP £1,000 together with mentorship support to help plan, deliver and evaluate the project.
The Athlete Voice Grant was launched under the GAPS Athlete Voice Initiative, which encourages athletes with disabilities to use their experiences to inspire change and become advocates within their communities.
During the visit, Minister Maelanga joined Commonwealth Sports Ministers and Heads of Delegation to observe training activities and a simulated Para Athletics competition before attending an inclusion panel discussion that focused on gender equality, disability and sport.
“The Ministry of Home Affairs acknowledges Commonwealth Sport and its partners for their continued investment in inclusive sport and athlete development, providing valuable opportunities for athletes with disabilities to compete, lead and inspire both on and off the sporting stage,” the statement said.
The ministry also encourages more Solomon Islanders living with disabilities to participate in sport, saying opportunities continue to grow for athletes to develop their talents and have their voices heard.
The GAPS programme was first introduced ahead of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and has since become a feature of each Commonwealth Games.
Developed by Griffith University in partnership with Commonwealth Sport, the programme focuses on removing barriers for para-athletes through high-performance training, education, mentoring and leadership development.

Galaxy FC head coach Batrum Suri has called for a more structured football calendar across Oceania, saying clubs need more quality matches and better planning to compete effectively at regional tournaments.
Speaking during Monday’s media conference at Lawson Tama Stadium, Suri said clubs qualifying for the OFC Men’s Champions League should have enough time to prepare through competitive fixtures rather than relying on only a handful of friendly matches.
“What we need to help our local teams is to have a fixed calendar so clubs that qualify know well in advance when they will play,” Suri said.
“That will really help our preparation.”
The Vanuatu champions are in Honiara as part of their build-up to next month’s OFC Men’s Champions League in Fiji, where they will represent Vanuatu against the region’s top clubs.
Suri said while the current three-match tour in Solomon Islands was valuable, more competitive matches will allow clubs to enter regional tournaments in better condition.
“Ideally, before the O-League, if we can play five or six matches, then we are much better prepared,” he said.
“Just playing three games means we are still trying to put the team together. By the time we face another strong team, we are still preparing.”
Galaxy opened their Honiara tour on Tuesday with a 2-0 defeat to reigning Telekom S-League champions Central Coast FC, a result Suri viewed as part of his side’s preparation rather than the final measure of its readiness.
He said the purpose of the tour was to expose his players to different styles of football before the regional championship.
“I like to play international friendlies because we can experience another level of football before the O-League,” Suri said.
“These matches help us improve before the real competition begins.”
The experienced Vanuatu coach also believes the regional game will benefit if clubs had greater certainty over competition schedules, allowing coaches to plan training programmes, player recruitment and friendly matches much earlier.
Despite Tuesday’s result, Suri remains confident the tour will strengthen Galaxy’s preparations ahead of its opening OFC Men’s Champions League match against Fiji champions Rewa FC.
The Vanuatu side will continue its Honiara tour with matches against SOSA FC and Malaita Kings FC before departing for Fiji.
Galaxy FC qualified for the OFC Men’s Champions League after winning the Vanuatu national title and are using their Solomon Islands tour as part of their final preparations for the regional competition.
The friendly series has also given local S-League clubs valuable international match experience ahead of the remainder of the domestic season and future OFC tournaments.

Solomon Islands champions to open OFC Men’s Champions League campaign against AS Tiga Sport

Solomon Islands champions Central Coast FC now know the road they must travel in pursuit of Oceania’s biggest club football title after the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) confirmed the official match schedule for the 2026 OFC Men’s Champions League in Fiji.
According to an OFC Media release issued yesterday, the eight-team tournament will be played from August 9 to August 22 across two venues in Nadi, with Central Coast drawn in Group A alongside New Zealand powerhouse Auckland City FC, Tahiti’s AS Venus and New Caledonia’s AS Tiga Sport.
“The pre-tournament media conference for the OFC Men’s Champions League 2026 will be held at First Landing Resort at Vuda Point in Nadi at 4pm on Friday 7th August,” the statement said.
“The coaches and captains of all eight competing clubs will be in attendance, and individual interviews will also be available upon request,” it added.
For Central Coast, the campaign begins on Sunday, August 9, when they take on AS Tiga Sport at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
The Solomon Islands representatives will then face one of the tournament favourites, Auckland City FC, on Thursday, August 13, before wrapping up the group stage against Tahiti’s AS Venus on Sunday, August 16.
All three matches are expected to be crucial as only the top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals scheduled for Wednesday, August 19, with the championship final set for Saturday, August 22.
Group B features Papua New Guinea champions Lae City FC, Cook Islands club Tupapa Maraerenga FC, Vanuatu’s Galaxy FC and hosts Rewa FC of Fiji.
The updated schedule also confirms that Fiji will host matches at Churchill Park in Lautoka and Govind Park in Ba, with the competition bringing together the champion clubs from across Oceania.
Central Coast will be aiming to build on Solomon Islands’ strong reputation in regional club football and secure a place in the knockout stage against some of the Pacific’s elite clubs.

Solomon Islands weightlifting veteran Jenly Wini capped her fifth Commonwealth Games appearance with a determined fifth-place finish in the women’s 53kg division at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, adding another commendable chapter to her distinguished career
Team Solomon confirmed the result in an update posted on its official social media platform, praising Wini’s resilience and fighting spirit throughout the competition.
Wini recorded a total lift of 172kg, made up of a 74kg snatch and a 98kg clean and jerk. She successfully lifted 95kg on her opening clean and jerk attempt, narrowly missed 98kg on her second lift before returning to successfully complete the weight on her final attempt to secure fifth place.
“On behalf of Team Solomon, we are happy with Jenly’s determination, resilience, and fighting spirit. Representing the Solomon Islands at her fifth Commonwealth Games is an achievement and another chapter in an outstanding career that continues to inspire our nation,” the Team Solomon statement said.

Team Solomon has welcomed the strong show of support from Minister for Home Affairs Reverend Manasseh Maelanga, whose presence at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games has provided a timely morale boost for the country’s athletes.
According to an update posted on the official Iumi Team Solomon social media platform, the minister has been supporting Team Solomon after attending the 12th Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting, joining athletes, coaches and officials at both the boxing and weightlifting competitions.
Team Solomon said the minister’s presence had been a significant source of encouragement as the national contingent continues its campaign on the Commonwealth stage.
“Team Solomon is honoured to have the Minister for Home Affairs, Reverend Hon Manasseh Maelanga, here in Glasgow providing unwavering moral support and encouragement to our athletes during the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games,” the statement said.
The team added that following his participation in the ministerial meeting, Rev. Hon. Maelanga took time to stand alongside the Solomon Islands delegation, cheering on athletes as they proudly represented the country.
“His presence has been a tremendous source of motivation for our athletes, coaches, and officials as they proudly represent the Solomon Islands on the Commonwealth stage,” the statement said.
During the Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting, held from July 21 to 22, ministers and senior officials from across the Commonwealth discussed the role of sport in promoting sustainable development, inclusion, integrity, youth engagement and climate resilience.
The statement said Maelanga contributed to discussions on sport integrity and the future direction of the Commonwealth Games, reaffirming Solomon Islands’ commitment to good governance, transparency, accountability, safeguarding, anti-doping measures and equal opportunities in sport.
He also stressed the importance of ensuring the Commonwealth Games remains accessible to all member nations while supporting efforts to further improve the quality and profile of the event.
The minister further commended the Glasgow 2026 Organising Committee for successfully delivering the Games within a limited preparation period and encouraged continued support to ensure equal participation opportunities for all Commonwealth nations at the 2030 Commonwealth Games in India.
“As Team Solomon continues its campaign in Glasgow, we sincerely thank Reverend Hon Manasseh Maelanga for taking the time to be with us, celebrate with us, and inspire our athletes through his presence and encouragement,” the statement said.
Team Solomon is currently competing at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games across several sporting codes, with Solomon Islands athletes continuing their quest to deliver strong performances while proudly representing the nation on the international stage.

The Solomon Islands Rugby Union Federation (SIRUF) has ushered in a new chapter after electing a refreshed executive board that will steer the code over the next four years, with the appointment of the federation’s first female executive office bearer highlighting a renewed emphasis on stronger governance and inclusivity.
According to information released by Rakabi Solomons, the new executive was elected during a Special General Meeting held on Monday at the SIRUF Conference Room in Honiara, attended by delegates from eight member unions alongside representatives from the National Sports Council (NSC), Oceania Rugby and the National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands (NOCSI).
While much of the leadership remains intact, the election delivered two notable changes, with Carlwyn Tengemoana taking over as Vice President (International) and lawyer Katalaini Ziru elected Treasurer. Ziru’s appointment is considered a milestone for the federation as she becomes the first woman to hold an executive office-bearing position on the SIRUF Executive Board.
Returning to lead the federation is President MP George Temahua, who was re-elected unopposed, while Moses Tepai Jnr retained his position as Vice President (Development), ensuring continuity in two of the board’s key leadership roles.
The newly elected executive comprises:
* President – Hon. George Temahua
* Vice President (International) – Carlwyn Tengemoana
* Vice President (Development) – Moses Tepai Jnr
* Treasurer – Katalaini Ziru
Tengemoana, a former Solomon Islands national Rugby Sevens and Rugby 15s representative and founder of Usotasi Rugby Club, succeeds Adrian Tuhanuku as Vice President (International), while Ziru replaces Barry Samson as Treasurer.
The election was overseen by NOCSI Vice President Morris Maitaki, with Oceania Rugby representative Wayne Schuster and NSC representative Jessie Bosomata serving as observers to the process.
Following the election, President Temahua thanked member unions for their participation, particularly delegates who travelled from the provinces, while also acknowledging the continued support of the federation’s major partners.
“We will continue to work closely with the SIRUF Council and all member unions to strengthen the federation’s governance, address outstanding constitutional matters and build on the progress achieved by the previous administration in developing rugby throughout the Solomon Islands,” Temahua said.
Delegates also identified gaps within the current SIRUF Constitution concerning the election of the Secretary and three Ordinary Members of the Executive Board.
“The matter has been referred to the newly elected Executive Board for consideration and resolution, including the possibility of constitutional amendments to provide greater clarity and strengthen the federation’s governance,” the Rakabi Solomons statement said.
The federation said the new board begins its four-year mandate with a commitment to improve governance, strengthen member unions and advance rugby across the country.
SIRUF’s previous executive had overseen several key developments in recent years, including the expansion of domestic rugby programmes, stronger engagement with provincial unions and continued collaboration with Oceania Rugby and national sporting stakeholders as the federation works to grow the game throughout Solomon Islands.

Royal Taekwondo Holds Grading

The Royal Taekwondo Club Solomon Islands (RTCSI) has successfully conducted its colour belt grading at the Rove Police Club in Honiara over the weekend.
RTCSI instructor and president Nelson Ramoi told Star Sports this week that the grading featured athletes competing for white, yellow, blue and green belts.
Ramoi said the successful completion of the grading has paved the way for the club to hold its belt presentation, where athletes will officially receive their new belts.
The grading included children aged six years and above, with six children taking part.
A total of 27 athletes were graded for beginner white belts, while five athletes were graded for green belts and 12 for yellow belts.
Ramoi clarified that the recent assessment was an internal club colour belt grading aimed at developing and promoting the athletes.
He said the club will also open registrations for new intakes during the belt presentation.
Ramoi said he was proud and grateful for the successful completion of the grading, praising the athletes for displaying discipline, respect and determination.
“I am truly proud and grateful for the successful completion of our recent Taekwondo belt grading.
“Seeing our students perform with discipline, respect, and determination made me very proud as an instructor and as someone who cares deeply about this club,” Ramoi said.
He said the improvement shown by the athletes in technique, fitness, confidence and spirit demonstrated that hard work was paying off.
“For the students, this grading is a milestone that motivates them to keep pushing for the next level,” he said.
Ramoi said the club's role extends beyond martial arts, with Taekwondo training also helping to build strong character, unity and national pride among its members.
He said the sport provides students with self-defence skills while teaching important values such as discipline, respect and responsibility, which they can carry into their homes, schools and communities.
Looking ahead, Ramoi said the club has a big vision for the development of its athletes, with the aim of creating a clear pathway for students to compete successfully at national level and eventually progress to international competitions.
“It is my dream to see our students represent Solomon Islands and represent our club with honour on the world stage.
"I believe we have talented young people here in Honiara who, with the right training and support, can become champions,” he said.
Ramoi also acknowledged the contribution of the club's executive committee, coaches and instructors for their leadership, sacrifice and commitment to the development of the athletes.
“None of this would be possible without our team behind the scenes.
"I want to sincerely thank our executive committee, our coaches and instructors for your leadership, sacrifice, and commitment.
"Your hard work is shaping the future of these students and the future of Taekwondo in our country,” he said.
He said RTCSI remains committed to training with excellence, supporting one another like family and upholding the core values of Taekwondo — courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit.
Ramoi also thanked the parents, supporters and students for their continued support, saying the successful grading marks only the beginning of a greater journey for the club and Solomon Islands Taekwondo.

Team Solomon weightlifter Jenly Tegu Wini has finished fifth in the Women’s 53kg Weightlifting event after recording a combined total lift of 172kg.
Tegu Wini lifted 74kg in the snatch before producing a 98kg clean and jerk to finish the competition with a total of 172kg.
She successfully lifted 95kg on her first clean and jerk attempt but missed her second attempt at 98kg.
The Solomon Islands weightlifter showed resilience on her final attempt, successfully lifting 98kg to secure fifth place overall.
Team Solomon praised Tegu Wini for her determination, resilience and fighting spirit throughout the competition.

Vanuatu champions use Honiara friendlies to fine-tune OFC campaign while giving local clubs valuable international exposure

Vanuatu champions Galaxy FC have arrived in Honiara determined to use a series of international friendlies against three Solomon Islands S-League clubs as the final step in their preparations for next month’s OFC Men’s Champions League in Fiji.
Speaking at a media conference at Lawson Tama Stadium yesterday, Galaxy FC head coach Batrum Suri said the tour was arranged to sharpen his side for the regional competition while also providing valuable international experience for the Solomon Islands clubs.
“Our coming was meant for preparation for the O-League.
“Our first test match will be tomorrow against Central Coast. We like to play international friendlies so that we can experience the standard of international football,” Suri said.
Galaxy FC will face reigning Telekom S-League champions Central Coast FC today before taking on SOSA FC on Thursday and Malaita Kings FC in the final match of the tour.
Despite dominating domestic football in Vanuatu, Suri said his side still needs stronger opposition ahead of the regional championship.
“In Vanuatu we have won four competitions already, but we still believe we are not yet fully prepared.
“We still need these friendlies because we want to reach another level before the Champions League,” he said.
Galaxy opens their OFC campaign against Fiji champions Rewa FC, a fixture Suri expects will be a stern challenge.
“Our first game against Rewa will not be easy because we will play on their home ground in front of their supporters. These friendlies are very important for our preparation,” he said.
Suri said Solomon Islands was chosen because the local clubs will also benefit from testing themselves against quality international opposition.
“I chose Solomon Islands because I also wanted to help the clubs here, especially Central Coast. International football is different from domestic competition,” he said.
Central Coast FC head coach Jacob Moli welcomed the opportunity, describing Galaxy FC as the perfect benchmark before the OFC tournament.
“Tomorrow’s game is a good opportunity for us. We haven’t had many matches to test ourselves, so this will show us where we are and what we need to improve,” Moli said.
He added that his priority is to assess the team’s performance rather than focusing on the result.
“I’m not too worried about the result. I want to see how the players perform together and identify what we need to improve,” he said.
SOSA FC head coach Stanley Waita said the friendly will be a valuable experience for his young squad.
“We have a young team and the boys are excited because many of them will experience international football for the first time,” Waita said.
Meanwhile, Malaita Kings FC said facing one of Vanuatu’s top clubs will provide invaluable exposure for players who have never competed against overseas opposition.
The three-match series will be played at Lawson Tama Stadium, with all four coaches encouraging football fans to turn out and support the regional showcase.
Galaxy FC are the reigning champions of Vanuatu and will represent their country at the upcoming OFC Men’s Champions League in Fiji. The three-match tour also provides Central Coast FC, SOSA FC and Malaita Kings FC with rare international match experience as they continue their Telekom S-League campaign and prepare for future regional competitions.

Galaxy FC Touch Down for
Solomons Friendly Tour
Vanuatu's Galaxy FC have arrived in Honiara ahead of a three-match tour of the Solomon Islands, where they will face S-League clubs Central Coast FC, Sosa FC, and Malaita Kings FC in a series of friendly matches.
The 22-player squad touched down in Honiara on Monday afternoon, led by head coach Batram Suri.
Suri said the tour forms part of Galaxy FC's preparations for their return to the OFC Men's Champions League after a four-year absence.
The Vanuatu champions will open their tour on Tuesday - 28th July when they face reigning S-League champions Central Coast FC at 3pm at Lawson Tama Stadium.
Following the opening match, the Suri-led side will take on Sosa FC on Thursday July 30 before wrapping up the tour against Malaita Kings FC on Monday August 3.
Members of the public and supporters are being urged to turn and enjoy the matches while supporting their teams.

Katukatu qualifies for FIFA U-17 World Cup

The Solomon Islands men’s Katukatu team has secured a historic place at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2027 after defeating hosts Papua New Guinea in a dramatic penalty shootout at the PNG Football Stadium in Port Moresby over the weekend.
The victory sees Solomon Islands join New Zealand and Fiji as Oceania’s three representatives at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar next year after defeating hosts with a 4-1 score victory.
According to OFC over the weekend, Henry Fa’arodo’s side spent much of the third-place playoff under pressure but showed great determination to come from behind and snatch victory from Papua New Guinea to secure the final World Cup qualification spot.
Speaking to OFC after the match, captain George Lea’i praised his teammates for their commitment throughout the tournament.
“I am proud of my teammates for this victory. We never stopped believing and kept fighting until the end,” Lea’i said.
He also thanked supporters, families and fans both in Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea for their prayers and encouragement.
“Thank you to everyone back home and those here in PNG for your support. Above all, I thank God for giving me the strength to perform for my country,” he said.
Goalscorer Adriano Kabolo said the team never lost hope despite trailing for most of the match.
“We fought until the final whistle and stayed focused for the penalty shootout. We are very happy to qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup,” Kabolo said.
“I want to thank all our supporters in Papua New Guinea and everyone back home in Solomon Islands for believing in us and supporting us throughout the tournament.”
Papua New Guinea dominated the opening half and created the better chances, with striker Boas Tommy twice denied by Solomon Islands goalkeeper Eddie Aefi. The hosts also struck the crossbar before defender Bomecge Basananuc had a header cleared off the goal line.
The breakthrough finally came in the 66th minute when Papua New Guinea captain Matthew Sopo fired a powerful first-time shot into the top corner to put the hosts ahead.
However, the Solomon Islands refused to give up. In the 84th minute, PNG goalkeeper Luther Rodney failed to hold onto a routine cross, allowing Adriano Kabolo to pounce and score the equaliser to force the match into a penalty shootout.
Having lost to Fiji on penalties in the semi-finals, the Katukatu held their nerve this time, converting four spot kicks while Papua New Guinea missed two. Captain George Lea’i calmly slotted home the winning penalty to seal a famous victory and spark jubilant celebrations.
According to OFC, the win sends Solomon Islands to its second FIFA U-17 World Cup, and its first appearance in eight years after previously qualifying in 2019. It is also the country’s highest finish at the OFC U-16 Men’s Championship since hosting the tournament in 2018.
The team’s achievement marks another milestone for Solomon Islands football and secures its place on the world stage once again.

The Solomon Islands Men’s U16 goalkeeper Eddie Aefi has been awarded the Golden Glove following an impressive campaign at the OFC U16 Men’s Championship 2026.
Aefi played a key role between the posts as the Solomon Islands secured a third-place finish in the tournament and earned a place at the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2027.
The young goalkeeper was instrumental throughout the championship, producing important performances to help the team achieve its tournament objectives.
His Golden Glove recognition highlights his contribution to the team’s successful campaign and marks a significant achievement for the rising goalkeeper.
Congratulations to Eddie Aefi on the award and to the Solomon Islands Men’s U16 team for securing a place at the 2027 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
