Second-half goals secure Academy U15 the SIFF Youth Championship title after a hard-fought final against KOSSA Yellow

Academy Under-15 were crowned champions of the SIFF Youth Championship after defeating KOSSA Yellow 2-0 in a tense grand final at the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) Academy Football Field on Thursday afternoon.
Locked at 0-0 at halftime, Academy stepped up their performance after the break, scoring through a well-worked goal before adding a second from the penalty spot to seal the championship.
Speaking to Island Sun Sports after the final, Academy U15 head coach Ian Lagwai Kalu praised his players’ discipline, resilience and commitment throughout the tournament while acknowledging the work of fellow coach Eric, who has been away in Fiji with Central Coast FC at the OFC Men’s Champions League.
“It feels good. First of all, I’d like to give all the glory to Almighty God for giving the boys the strength,” Kalu said.
“The feeling is wonderful. Seeing these boys play and win this championship makes me really proud of their performance.”
Kalu revealed that his side deliberately rotated players during the first half before introducing his regular starting line-up after the interval.
“We wanted to give everyone game time during the first half,” he said.
“In the second half we brought on our starting eleven and simply told them to go out and enjoy the game. If they wanted to win it, they had to go out and do it, and that’s exactly what they did.”
The coach said the opening goal transformed the match and allowed Academy to execute its pressing game more effectively.
“After the first goal the boys started to find their rhythm,” Kalu said.
“We wanted to pressure our opponents, win the ball high up the field and attack quickly. That’s exactly what happened, and eventually we earned the penalty.”
Kalu also commended his young squad for maintaining discipline throughout the competition, saying sportsmanship had been one of the team’s biggest priorities.
“We always remind the boys to stay disciplined and focus on the game,” he said.
“Whatever happens during the match is part of football. They must not retaliate. They have to show good sportsmanship.”
Academy captain George Lea’i described the title as a reward for the team’s hard work and said they are already looking ahead to future competitions.
“It means a lot to me and the team,” Lea’i said.
“We’re looking forward to the next tournament and the next league, and we’ll continue to work hard.”
Reflecting on the final, Lea’i acknowledged KOSSA Yellow’s defensive effort.
“It was difficult because KOSSA defended very well,” he said.
“We stayed patient, kept possession of the ball and saved our energy for the second half.”
The captain dedicated the championship victory to the coaching staff, tournament organisers and his teammates.
“I would like to dedicate this victory to our coaches, the organisers of the tournament and all of my teammates,” Lea’i said.
Kalu believes the championship will play an important role in preparing many of the players for the next stage of Solomon Islands’ youth football pathway.
“Many of these boys will be preparing for next year’s Under-16 World Cup qualifiers,” he said.
“Winning this championship gives them confidence and motivates them to work even harder.”
The SIFF Youth Championship was staged over nearly two weeks at the SIFF Academy Football Field as part of the federation’s youth development programme, providing Under-15 and Under-16 players with valuable competitive match experience while helping identify future talent for Solomon Islands football.
Minister Maelanga outlines ambitious vision to strengthen sport through provincial facilities, governance reforms and grassroots investment

The Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthen sports development across Solomon Islands, with plans to invest in sports infrastructure in the provinces while pursuing reforms to improve sports governance and administration.
Speaking during his reply to the Speech from the Throne in Parliament this week, Minister for Home Affairs Rev Manasseh Maelanga said sport remains one of the country’s strongest forces for national unity and social development.
“Sports continues to unite our people regardless of province, language or background. It is a fundamental uniting factor for our people,” Mr Maelanga told Parliament.
He said the Government wants to strengthen the country’s sporting framework by reforming the National Sports Council into a stronger institution capable of delivering sports development throughout the country.
“The development of a National Sports within our national culture and the reform of the National Sports Council towards a stronger institutional foundation for sports development across the country, must happen,” he said.
The Minister also stressed that sporting bodies will be expected to meet higher standards of governance and accountability.
“The Government will hold our sporting bodies into account and require a high level of commitment and standards from all sporting bodies,” he said.
Maelanga said the Government’s investment in sport will extend from grassroots participation through to elite athlete development, recognising sport’s wider contribution to youth development, healthier lifestyles, social inclusion and national unity.
He said the Government is determined to create an environment where athletes can excel internationally while becoming positive role models in their communities.
“I am adamant as the Minister responsible for Sport to see our athletes excel and win medals and be successful citizens in our communities,” he said.
To achieve that vision, the Minister said stronger sports administration and improved facilities will be essential, confirming that the Government is seriously considering building sports infrastructure in the provinces in the near future.
“We will be seriously looking into building sports infrastructures in our Provinces in the immediate future,” he said.
Maelanga also confirmed that the Ministry of Home Affairs will work closely with national sporting federations, schools, provincial governments and community organisations to strengthen sports governance and create more opportunities for participation throughout Solomon Islands.
The Government’s latest commitment comes as Solomon Islands continues to invest in grassroots programmes while national federations prepare athletes for regional and international competitions, highlighting the growing importance of strengthening sports systems and facilities across the country.

The National Sports Council (NSC) has taken another step to improve workplace safety by recognising staff members who successfully completed a chemical safety training programme to strengthen safety practices across the country’s sporting venues.
According to information released through the NSC’s official media platform, 15 staff members received certificates on Thursday after completing the Chemical Safety Training Programme conducted by MYK Suppliers.
The recipients who are cleaners, venue managers and administration staff underwent the training on July 3.
From the training, they gained practical knowledge on how to safely handle, store and use workplace chemicals used to maintain NSC facilities.
While the programme focused on chemical safety, the broader objective was to reduce workplace risks and create a safer environment for staff, athletes, officials and members of the public who regularly use the council’s sporting venues.
Presenting the certificates, NSC Chief Executive Officer Alison Burchell congratulated the participants and encouraged them to apply what they had learned in their daily responsibilities.
“Chemical safety is an essential part of maintaining a safe working environment,” Burchell said.
She urged staff to continue practising safe handling procedures to help protect themselves, their colleagues and everyone who uses NSC facilities.
The training also highlighted the importance of professional development within the organisation, with the council continuing to invest in programmes that improve workplace standards alongside the delivery of sporting services.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Rose Sala Olea said the training strengthened staff confidence and provided practical skills that will improve their work.
“The training has given us a much better understanding of how to use cleaning chemicals safely and correctly,” Olea said.
“It has increased our confidence and will help us carry out our work more safely while protecting ourselves, our colleagues and the facilities we look after.”
NSC also acknowledged MYK Suppliers for delivering the programme and for supporting the council’s efforts to improve workplace health and safety through practical training initiatives.
Although they often work behind the scenes, cleaners, venue managers and administrative staff play an important role to ensure national sporting venues remain safe, clean and operational for competitions, training sessions and community events throughout the year.
The Chemical Safety Training Programme was conducted on July 3 by MYK Suppliers. Fifteen NSC staff members successfully completed the course before receiving their certificates on Thursday, with the initiative forming part of the council’s ongoing commitment to workplace safety and staff development.

Football fans across the Solomon Islands and the Pacific will be able to watch every match of the 2026 OFC Men’s Champions League live and free when the competition kicks off in Fiji this weekend.
According to an Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) media release issued yesterday, all matches will be streamed live on FIFA+ through the DAZN platform, allowing supporters around the world to follow every game featuring Oceania’s top eight clubs.
“The 2026 OFC Men’s Champions League will be streamed live and free on FIFA+, delivered through the DAZN platform, giving fans around the world access to every match in the competition live from Fiji,” the statement said.
Supporters can access the live coverage by signing into DAZN using a FIFA ID. Those without a FIFA ID can create one during the sign-in process before selecting the FIFA+ section to access the OFC Men’s Champions League matches.
The tournament brings together eight champion clubs from across the region, including Solomon Islands representatives Central Coast FC, alongside Auckland City FC of New Zealand, AS Vénus of Tahiti, AS Tiga Sport of New Caledonia, Lae City FC of Papua New Guinea, Tupapa Maraerenga FC of the Cook Islands, Galaxy FC of Vanuatu and hosts Rewa FC of Fiji.
OFC also confirmed that DAZN can be accessed on smart televisions, mobile phones, tablets, computers and gaming consoles, enabling supporters to watch matches from almost anywhere.
In addition to the live broadcasts, football fans can keep up with team line-ups, match reports, results and exclusive tournament content through the OFC website and its official social media platforms.
The 2026 OFC Men’s Champions League runs from August 9-22 in Fiji, with the group stage beginning this Sunday before the competition moves into the semi-finals on August 19 and the final on August 22. The Solomon Islands Chess Federation (SICF) has officially wrapped up its International Chess Day 2026 Online Creative Chess Challenge, announcing three winning entries following a successful two-week campaign that showcased the many unique places where Solomon Islanders enjoy the game.
According to information shared on the federation’s official social media platform, the challenge officially closed on July 31 after attracting 26 creative entries from participants across the country.
The federation said its Executive Committee assessed submissions based on creativity, public engagement through likes and shares, and the competition criteria before selecting the winners.
“Our International Chess Day 2026 Online Creative Chess Challenge officially closed on 31 July 2026.
“A huge thank you to everyone who participated! We received 26 creative entries, and we truly appreciate the time, effort, and passion each of you put into showcasing where you play chess,” the statement said.
Following the judging process, SICF announced Hauksyy as the winner of the Most Likes and Shares category for Entry No. 16, featuring a chess setup at Water Fall in Kongulai with the caption, “Outdoor checkmates only.”
James Baiango claimed the Most Creative Video award with Entry No. 8, filmed in Tavio under the theme “Chess for Growth.”
The Most Creative Image category was won jointly by Mikey Pagge and Kevin Snik for Entry No. 12, which captured a nighttime chess match in Upper Ruka, Kongulai Jungle, also carrying the caption “Chess for Growth.”
The federation congratulated the winners and confirmed they will soon be contacted to arrange the presentation of their cash prizes.
“A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated. We truly enjoyed seeing the many unique places where chess is played across the Solomon Islands,” the federation said.
The federation also encouraged players and supporters to stay connected for more activities, adding, “Stay tuned for more exciting challenges, tournaments and events from the Solomon Islands Chess Federation.”
The online challenge formed part of SICF’s celebration of International Chess Day and ran from July 15 to July 31 under the theme “Show Us Where You Play.” Participants were invited to creatively capture themselves playing chess in different locations across the country, helping promote the game while highlighting its growing reach beyond conventional playing venues.
The competition follows a busy period for the federation, which has continued to expand chess participation through tournaments, school programmes and community initiatives in Solomon Islands.

Chung Wah School has launched a community fundraising campaign to support its Under-12 boys futsal team’s journey to Brisbane, Australia, where the young side will represent Solomon Islands at the 2026 National School Titles.
According to information shared on Chung Wah School’s official social media platform, the school is inviting supporters, businesses and the wider community to attend a Corporate Dinner Fundraiser to help raise funds for the team’s overseas campaign.
“Our Under 12 Futsal Team has earned the incredible opportunity to represent the Solomon Islands at the National School Titles 2026 in Brisbane, Australia,” the school said.
The school described the opportunity as more than just a sporting competition, saying it will allow the young players to showcase their talent, gain valuable experience and proudly represent both their school and the country on the international stage.
“This is more than a competition—it’s a chance for our young athletes to showcase their talent, build lifelong memories, and proudly represent our school and our nation on the international stage,” the statement said.
The fundraising dinner will be held on Saturday, August 15, at the KG Sports Dining Hall from 6pm to 10pm. Tables are available for SBD$5,000, accommodating up to 10 people, while raffle tickets will also be on sale during the evening.
Guests will be treated to local food, pork and barbecue, alongside live band entertainment, tamure and cultural dance performances as organisers seek to rally community support behind the team’s campaign.
“Every ticket purchased, every sponsorship, and every donation brings our team one step closer to Brisbane,” the school said.
The National School Titles 2026 will be held from September 28 to October 1 at the Mt Warren Sports and Fitness Centre in Brisbane. The team is scheduled to depart Solomon Islands on September 23 before returning on October 3.
The school concluded by encouraging the community to unite behind the young players, saying every contribution will help make the journey possible as they prepare to represent Solomon Islands on the international futsal stage.

Green Shield, Southern United Set for Unbeaten SIFF Super League Showdown
An unbeaten clash between Green Shield FC and Southern United FC will headline today's SIFF Super League Round Six fixtures, with both sides aiming to seize early control of the competition.
The Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) has identified the encounter as the feature match of the midweek schedule, with both clubs entering the contest after winning their opening two matches of the season.
"The SIFF Super League is back with exciting midweek matches, and there is one match you cannot miss," the federation said ahead of the fixture.
SIFF noted that both teams have enjoyed perfect starts to their campaigns, setting up an intriguing battle for top spot.
"Both teams are undefeated and have won their first two matches. It's a fight for the top spot. Who will make a mistake first? Will Green Shield's defence hold up, or will Southern United's attack be too strong?" SIFF said.
The highly anticipated match is scheduled to kick off at 3pm today at Lawson Tama Stadium and is expected to be one of the most competitive fixtures of the round.
Round Six action begins at 1pm with Marist FC taking on Honiara City FC, before Green Shield and Southern United meet in the day's feature match at the same venue.
SIFF has encouraged football fans to attend and support their teams, with admission priced at $20 for the grandstand and $10 for the hillside.

Nine former Solomon Kings players strengthen Central Coast FC as Solomon Islands champions prepare for tough OFC Men’s Champions League campaign in Fiji

Central Coast FC will head into next week’s OFC Men’s Champions League in Fiji with renewed confidence after bolstering their squad with nine players from Solomon Kings FC, despite having only limited time to prepare for the Oceania’s premier club football tournament.
According to an official team profile released recently by OFC Media, the reigning Telekom S-League champions have significantly strengthened their squad with players who featured for Solomon Kings FC during the inaugural OFC Pro League season earlier this year.
Among the notable additions are Solomon Islands internationals Rafa Lea’i, Bobby Leslie, Javin Wae and Junior David, whose professional experience is expected to provide a major lift as Central Coast target a deep run in the regional competition.
However, head coach Jacob Moli admitted that the side enters the tournament with little competitive preparation after the domestic Telekom S-League only recently got underway.
“The S-League has only just started, and we’ve had only one match to see where we are at the moment,” Moli said.
Central Coast opened the defence of their domestic title with a narrow 1-0 victory over Marist FC last weekend before shifting their attention to the continental championship.
The Solomon Islands representatives have been drawn into arguably the tournament’s toughest pool, Group A, alongside New Zealand powerhouse Auckland City FC, Tahiti’s AS Vénus and New Caledonia’s AS Tiga Sport.
“We’re in the group of death, especially with Auckland City FC in it. But they’re all good sides. We just have to go there and try our best,” Moli said.
While match fitness remains a concern, the experienced squad could prove to be one of Central Coast’s greatest assets.
Moli welcomed the arrival of the former Solomon Kings players, saying their presence has already raised standards within the team.
“I’m glad that they have joined the team because their experience with Solomon Kings has lifted the standard of our training sessions for the other players,” he said.
More than half of the 20-man squad are current Solomon Islands internationals, while 17 players have previously competed in the OFC Men’s Champions League.
The squad will again be led by Moli, who has coached Central Coast since the club’s establishment in 2020 and guided them to Telekom S-League titles in 2021, 2024 and 2025.
“It’s another privilege to be involved with Central Coast in this edition of the OFC Men’s Champions League.
“It’s another challenge, but we’ll take it head on and try our best,” Moli said.
One player expected to play a key role is star forward Rafa Lea’i, who returns to the OFC Men’s Champions League after spending recent seasons playing professionally overseas before joining Solomon Kings in the OFC Pro League.
Although he scored just once during the Pro League season, the 22-year-old remains one of the country’s most dangerous attackers, having netted 14 goals in 26 appearances for the Solomon Islands national team.
Central Coast’s squad also features experienced campaigners including captain Marlon Tahioa, Clifford Fafale, Fordney Junior, Barrie Limoki, Peter Rarava, Fred Bala and goalkeeper Gideon Abidan.
Central Coast will open their Group A campaign against Auckland City FC on August 10 at Churchill Park in Lautoka before facing AS Vénus on August 13 at the same venue. They will conclude the group stage against AS Tiga Sport on August 16 at Govind Park in Ba.
The OFC Men’s Champions League 2026 will be held in Fiji from August 9-22, bringing together the top clubs from across Oceania to compete for the regional title and qualification for FIFA’s global club competitions.
Central Coast FC are making their third appearance in the tournament, having reached the semi-finals in 2022 before exiting in the group stage as hosts in 2025.

The East Makira Constituency (EMC) Office has announced plans to host East Makira Constituency Cup Football Tournament in December later this year, with the event aimed at promoting sports development and strengthening unity among communities.
The announcement was made by the EMC Office under the leadership of Member of Parliament and Minister for Agriculture and Livestock, Hon. Franklyn Derek Wasi.
The exact dates and theme for the tournament will be announced at a later stage.
According to the EMC Office, the tournament will be hosted at Marunga in Ward 19, following an agreement reached by Hon. Wasi and EMC Constituency Development Committee members during a meeting last week.
A Local Organising Committee (LOC) will be established on the ground, comprising representatives from Piruma, Apurahe, Marunga and Paregho.
Meanwhile, a Honiara-based committee has already been formed with the approval of the MP, EMC Office and CDC members.
The committee will work alongside the local organising committee, Makira Ulawa Football Association (MUFA) and other stakeholders to coordinate preparations for the tournament.
The EMC Office said the constituency and Games Taskforce would actively involve communities in preparations for the major sporting event.
Under the preliminary tournament format, each ward will be required to register two 11-a-side teams, with ward representatives responsible for organising their own selection processes. Players must be between 17 and 30 years old, while there will be no registration fee for participating teams.
The tournament will be played under FIFA rules and regulations set by the LOC. Further ground rules will be released once finalised by the Honiara-based committee.
The official draw will be conducted in Honiara and livestreamed after all participating teams have been confirmed.
The tournament will offer a combined $75,000 in prize money for the top four teams.
The champions will receive the EMC Cup Trophy, 24 gold medals and $30,000, while the first runners-up will receive $20,000 and 24 silver medals.
The second runners-up will take home $15,000 and 24 bronze medals, with the third-place team receiving $10,000.
Additional awards will include the Fairest Team, Player of the Tournament, Golden Boot and Golden Glove.
The Man of the Match award will be introduced from the quarter-final stage, featuring the top eight teams, with the award sponsored by Hon. Wasi.
The EMC Office said the announcement was a preliminary briefing, with more detailed information on the tournament's technical aspects and other arrangements expected to be released in the coming weeks and months.
Hon. Wasi has also called on participating teams to begin preparations early and remain alert for further updates.
The EMC Office acknowledged MUFA President Tommy Mana and Peter Konata for sharing their knowledge and insights with the EMC Office and the Honiara-based committee during their first meeting in Honiara.

The Solomon Islands national beach soccer programme has officially resumed with the naming of a 20-man Bilikiki training squad ahead of the OFC Beach Soccer Men’s Nations Cup 2026 in Tahiti.
The Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) announced the squad through its official social media platform, confirming that preparations are now underway for the regional championship, which will be held in Tahiti from October 22 to 31.
According to SIFF, the selected players will begin preparations as they aim to earn places in the final national team that will represent Solomon Islands at the Oceania tournament.
“The National Beach Soccer Coaching Team is proud to announce the 20-man training squad for our National Beach Soccer team, the Bilikiki, as they begin their preparations for the OFC Beach Soccer Men’s Nations Cup 2026,” the federation said.
SIFF also encouraged the selected players to make the most of the opportunity.
“To all the players selected—this is your moment. Train hard, stay focused, and make the nation proud,” the federation said.
The provisional squad features players drawn from several domestic clubs, highlighting the depth of beach soccer talent across the country.
Four goalkeepers have been included in the initial squad—Mae Ome of Kwai FC, James Do’oro of Kossa FC, Seth Sia of Eastern Kings and Roy Kabini of Island Brothers.

The Bilikiki are widely recognised as one of Oceania’s most successful beach soccer teams, having represented Solomon Islands at multiple FIFA Beach Soccer World Cups over the years. Their campaign in Tahiti will provide another opportunity to showcase the country’s rich beach soccer pedigree on the regional stage.

Four Solrais Women’s Premier League (SWPL) clubs return to action today as the competition enters another important stage, with Round 17 featuring a midweek double-header at East End Stadium.
RSIPF Royals FC, Marist FC, West Honiara FC and Koloale FC will battle for crucial points as teams continue their push to improve their positions on the league standings.
According to information released by the Solrais Women’s Premier League through its official social media platform, RSIPF Royals FC and Marist FC will open the day’s fixtures at 2pm before West Honiara FC takes on Koloale FC at 4pm.
“A double-header in the Solrais Women’s Premier League this Wednesday,” the league said.
Both matches will be played at East End Stadium in King George, with supporters encouraged to attend and support women’s football, with free admission offered for the two fixtures.
“Come and support our women’s football,” the league said.
The Round 17 matches come at a crucial point of the season as clubs continue their battle for valuable competition points and a stronger finish on the standings.
The latest SWPL standings update shows a tight race at the top, with Frigates United and Naha locked together on 28 points, highlighting the importance of every remaining match as clubs chase higher positions.
With the competition reaching the later stages, each result carries greater significance as teams look to close the gap, maintain their momentum, or climb the ladder before the season concludes.
Today’s double-header provides another opportunity for clubs outside the top positions to collect important points and challenge the current order on the competition table.

An unbeaten showdown between Green Shield FC and Southern United FC will headline today’s SIFF Super League Round Six fixtures as both sides battle for early supremacy in the competition.
The Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) highlighted the encounter as the feature match of the midweek schedule, describing it as the battle for top spot between two teams that have each won their opening two matches of the season.
“The SIFF Super League is back with exciting midweek matches, and there is one match you cannot miss,” the federation said.
SIFF said both Green Shield and Southern United head into today’s contest unbeaten after making winning starts to their respective campaigns.
“Both teams are undefeated and have won their first two matches. It’s a fight for the top spot. Who will make a mistake first? Will Green Shield’s defence hold up, or will Southern United’s attack be too strong?” the federation said.
The match is scheduled for a 3pm kick-off today at Lawson Tama Stadium and is expected to be one of the most closely contested fixtures of the round.
Round Six action gets underway today with Marist FC taking on Honiara City FC at 1pm, before Green Shield and Southern United meet in the day’s feature match at 3pm, both at Lawson Tama Stadium.
SIFF encourages football supporters to turn out and back their teams, with tickets available at the gate at $20 for the grandstand and $10 for the hillside.
The Round Six fixtures continue the race for valuable points as teams look to strengthen their positions in the early stages of the SIFF Super League season.
The SIFF Super League is Solomon Islands’ premier domestic football competition and brings together clubs from across the country to compete for national honours. With several rounds still remaining, every point will be crucial as teams continue their pursuit of the league title.

Salt FC Make It 11 Wins in a Row in SSFL

Salt Futsal Club (FC) have extended their winning run in the 2026 SIFF Super Futsal League (SSFL) to 11 matches following a dominant 7-2 victory over Real Lights FC on Saturday at the SIFF Futsal Court in Honiara.
The Stanley Puirana-coached side now sit comfortably at the top of the standings with 33 points, holding an eight-point lead over second-placed Haura FC.
Speaking to Star Sports, coach Stanley Puirana praised his players for their consistency and commitment throughout the season.
"So far, our performances have been really consistent. Shoutout to the boys for always showing up and putting in a lot of hard work during training. It has really paid off so far," he said.
With the league entering the business end of the season, Puirana knows the challenges will only become tougher.
"Now that we're into the second round of the season, we know every team will be aiming to end our winning run, so we must work even harder for the challenges ahead," he added.
Puirana said his side must remain focused, stick to their style of play, and treat every match like a final if they are to maintain their impressive run.
With only seven matches remaining in the 2026 season, Salt FC are edging closer to securing their first league title, however, Puirana believes there is still plenty of work to be done before they can celebrate.
"As I always say, every team wants to beat us and they are preparing well. For us to keep winning, we have to perform at our very best," he said.
Meanwhile, the SSFL enters Match-week 12 this weekend at the SIFF Futsal Court, with five matches scheduled across Saturday and Sunday.

The race for the Solrais Women’s Premier League (SWPL) Golden Boot is intensifying as the competition reaches the halfway mark of the season.
The latest scoring figures were confirmed by the SWPL on Tuesday, with Henderson Eels FC forward Ileen Pegi leading the race with an impressive 30 goals.
Pegi has been in outstanding form throughout the first half of the season, consistently finding the back of the net and establishing herself as the player to beat in the race for the league's top scorer award.
Geniagu United FC striker Gracester Kini is Pegi's closest challenger, sitting second on the scoring chart with 24 goals, while Frigates United FC's Keren Kalapai follows closely with 23 goals.
Haura FC also has two players among the leading scorers, with Jeremie Oliver on 14 goals and teammate Claudia Votu on 13 goals to complete the current top five.
With the second half of the SWPL season still to be played, the Golden Boot race remains wide open, with the leading players expected to continue their battle for the prestigious individual award.
Pegi currently holds a six-goal advantage over Kini, but with plenty of matches remaining, the competition for the top-scoring title could go down to the wire.

Race for SWPL title heats up

The race for the title and individual honours continues to intensify as the football competition reaches the halfway stage of the season, SIFF Media stated in its latest Solomon Islands Women’s Premier League (SWPL) update.
Round 11 produced another exciting weekend of football, with Naha FC recording the biggest victory of the round after crushing West Honiara FC 15-0.
According to SIFF Media, the emphatic win underlined Naha FC’s attacking strength as teams continue their push for the league championship.
In another Round 11 fixture, Geniagu United FC secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Henderson Eels FC.
“Despite a determined performance from Henderson Eels, Geniagu United held on to claim all three points,” SIFF Media said.
Koloale FC also enjoyed a dominant performance, defeating Marist FC 7-0 to complete another convincing result in the round.
Away from the team standings, the battle for the SWPL Golden Boot is also gathering momentum.
SIFF Media said Henderson Eels striker Ileen Pegi continues to lead the scoring chart with an impressive 30 goals.
Geniagu United’s Gracester Kini is second on 24 goals, while Frigates United forward Keren Kalapai sits third with 23 goals.

The Suva Base Islander Futsal League has received a major boost ahead of its Semester Two 2026 competition, with University of the South Pacific (USP) academic Dr. Mapuru donating the official league trophy.
Suva Base Islander Futsal League Organising Committee Secretary Abel Wanesuia told Star Sports from Fiji Monday that the support was acknowledged during a meeting of the organising committee, team captains and representatives on Sunday, 2 August 2026, as preparations continue for the upcoming season.
Dr. Mapuru, a lecturer and Head of the School of Business Management at USP's Laucala Campus, presented the trophy as part of his support for student and community engagement through sport.
The trophy was formally received on behalf of the organising committee by Wanesuia, alongside Sport Chairperson Patrick Junior Tabua.
Wanesuia said the committee appreciated Dr. Mapuru's contribution, noting that the support goes beyond the provision of a trophy and represents an investment in youth development, leadership, teamwork and community engagement among Solomon Islanders living and studying in Fiji.
The league aims to bring together Solomon Islands students from USP, Fiji National University (FNU), other institutions and members of the Solomon Islands working community in Suva.
It seeks to use futsal as a platform to promote unity, friendship, healthy lifestyles and positive engagement among Solomon Islanders in Fiji.
The organising committee has also welcomed Calvy Aoniama, who has accepted an invitation to serve alongside the committee.
Aoniama, who is part of the Solomon Islands working community in Suva, was acknowledged for his willingness to contribute his experience, knowledge and leadership to the development of the league.
The committee said collaboration between students and working professionals would be important in strengthening the competition while creating opportunities for networking and leadership development.
It said the league would provide more than just sporting competition, with the initiative designed to strengthen relationships and foster a sense of identity and belonging among Solomon Islanders in Fiji.
As preparations continue, the committee is calling for further support and partnerships from Solomon Islands students, businesses, community leaders and friends of Solomon Islands in Fiji.
The committee said collective support would be critical to delivering a successful league built around unity, respect and community spirit.
The Suva Base Islander Futsal League is being promoted under the theme: "Building Unity Through Sport."

Sixteen teams register as RSIPF steps up preparations for darts tournament to mark occasion

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has stepped up preparations for its annual Blue Ribbon Day darts tournament after receiving new equipment to support the competition scheduled for September.
According to information released by the RSIPF Media Unit yesterday, the force received two sets of dart equipment from the RSIPF-AFP Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP) during a handover ceremony at Rove Police Headquarters on Thursday.
Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Mathias Lenialu said the equipment will strengthen preparations ahead of the tournament, with one set reserved for the competition while the other will be used by participating teams during training.
“So far sixteen teams of the Honiara-based police officers have already been registered for the tournament,” Lenialu said.
He said the support from RAPPP comes at an important time as officers intensify preparations for the event.
“The tournament will coincide with the Police Blue Ribbon Day on September 29, 2026,” he said.
Lenialu acknowledges RAPPP for supporting the initiative, saying the equipment will assist in engaging police officers through sport as the tournament draws nearer.
The darts championship is expected to involve officers from across Honiara, while police commands in other provinces will organise their own activities to mark Police Blue Ribbon Day.
The handover ceremony also included senior RSIPF executives and RAPPP representatives, who gathered to officially receive the equipment before posing for a group photograph.
Police Blue Ribbon Day is observed annually by police organisations around the world to recognise the service and commitment of police officers.
This year’s RSIPF celebrations will again feature sport as one of the key activities, with the darts tournament serving as a platform to promote teamwork, camaraderie and healthy competition among officers.

Solomon Islands middle-distance runner Stephen Rahuasi has wrapped up his men’s 800 metres campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, as Team Solomon continues to produce determined performances across several sporting disciplines.
An update shared by Iumi Team Solomon highlighted Rahuasi’s effort alongside encouraging results from the national weightlifting, para powerlifting, swimming and boxing teams as the country’s campaign continues on the international stage.
“Team Solomon continues to represent our country with pride, determination and resilience at the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026,” the update said.
Rahuasi finished 29th out of 32 athletes in the men’s 800m, crossing the line in 2 minutes 0.16 seconds. Although the time fell short of his personal best of 1:53.50, which earned him the silver medal at the 2025 Pacific Mini Games in Palau, Team Solomon praised the athlete for his commitment and determination.
“While today’s result was not what Stephen had hoped for, representing the Solomon Islands on the Commonwealth stage is a significant achievement. Every race provides valuable experience and strengthens the foundation for future competitions,” the update said.
The team also acknowledged Rahuasi’s commitment, adding that greater performances lie ahead as he continues his athletics journey.
Elsewhere, weightlifter Jenly Tegu Wini produced one of Solomon Islands’ best results so far, finishing fifth in the women’s 53kg division, while para powerlifter Moffet Tolomae placed 11th on his Commonwealth Games debut after successfully lifting 110 kilograms.
The swimming team also impressed, with Bijay Ghusa Garry setting a new personal best in the men’s 50m butterfly, while Loise Bently recorded personal best performances in both the women’s 50m breaststroke and women’s 50m freestyle during her Commonwealth Games debut.
Team Solomon also commended its young boxing squad for showing “great heart and determination in the ring” despite facing tough international opposition.
Attention now turns to the remainder of the athletics programme and the judo competition, with Team Solomon’s judokas Alister Meideni Sukhamana and Georgina Samo prepare to begin their campaign while Geejay Junior and Leony Pusua are set to contest in the men’s 5,000m event tomorrow.
The delegation thanks supporters throughout Solomon Islands for their continued encouragement, saying the athletes remain focused and proud to represent the country on the Commonwealth stage.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games remain underway in Glasgow, with Team Solomon still to compete in judo and the men’s 5,000m as the national team looks to finish its campaign strongly.
