SICF INCLUSIVE CRICKET FESTIVAL

The Solomon Islands Cricket Federation (SICF) has successfully staged its Inclusive Cricket Festival at the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport (SINIS) over the weekend.
SICF President Sajeewa Liyanage told Star Sports the festival brought together participants from different backgrounds, including students from two disability schools, Red Cross and San Isidoro Disability School.
The festival featured fun activities for the participating students, along with cricket exhibition matches in the senior open categories.
The men's exhibition match featured Solomon Kings taking on Striking Brothers, while the women's category also featured an exhibition match as part of the festival program.
Liyanage said the event also included community awareness and engagement activities aimed at promoting inclusion and participation through cricket.
He said the women's exhibition match was particularly significant, as it marked the first time some of the female participants had played a cricket match.
"For the women's category, this is their first cricket game," Liyanage said.
The festival provided an opportunity for participants to enjoy cricket in a fun and inclusive environment, with activities throughout the day creating an atmosphere of excitement and engagement.
Liyanage said the successful staging of the festival demonstrated the important role sport can play in bringing people together and creating opportunities for everyone to participate.
He thanked all participants for their time and effort in making the festival a success.
The SICF president also acknowledged the support of the Australian Government for its assistance towards the successful staging of the Inclusive Cricket Festival.
The festival is part of SICF's efforts to promote cricket as an inclusive sport and encourage greater participation across the community.

利亚纳吉表示,此次活动还包括旨在通过板球促进包容和参与的社区意识和参与活动。
他说,女子表演赛尤其重要,因为这是一些女性参与者首次参加板球比赛。
“对于女子类别来说,这是她们的第一场板球比赛,”利亚纳吉说。

THE Solomon Islands Meteorological Service (SIMS) issued an Orange Alert for waters of Western, Makira, Temotu, Rennell/Bellona provinces and the southern waters of Guadalcanal and Russell Islands, warning that strong winds could capsize small boats over the next 24 hours.
Impact Based Warning Number Ninety-Nine was issued at 4pm yesterday, Friday 24th July 2026.
According to the warning, a general southeast to southwest wind flow is affecting the Solomon Islands and winds are expected to reach 15 to 20 knots, increasing to 25 knots over areas covered by the alert.
SIMS said seas will become moderate to rough, with moderate south to southeast swells of 2.5 metres, and warns of poor visibility in shower areas.
The warning was rated as High likelihood with significant impact on the service’s risk matrix, placing it at Medium risk overall.
The corresponding response level was set at “Be Prepared”, one level below the highest “Take Action” category.
SIMS said small boats are likely to capsize in the forecasted conditions and urges sea travellers to consider safety actions, as winds can produce dangerous wave conditions, hazardous to small vessels.
People in the affected areas have been advised to take precautionary measures, as strong winds have the potential to impact lives and property. SIMS noted that this warning be shared with people with disabilities.
The public is also urged to stay informed and prepared, and to listen to SIBC and other media outlets for further updates.

Housing Relief for Solomon Islands Family Raising Four Newborn Daughters in Australia
BRISBANE, Queensland – A Brisbane-based family originally from the Solomon Islands has received welcome news after the Queensland Government reinstated its private rental assistance following a review of their exceptional circumstances.
Father Jortham Na'amoana and mother Jenitar Na'amoana, who are originally from Rennell and Bellona province in Solomon Islands and now reside in Brisbane, recently shared an update thanking the Queensland Government and supporters who have stood alongside them following the birth of their quadruplet daughters.
The family said they were grateful that their private rental assistance had been restored after a review of their case.
They expressed sincere appreciation to Queensland Housing Minister Sam O'Connor for personally reviewing their situation, as well as federal Member of Parliament Anika Wells and Queensland Member of Parliament Bart Mellish for advocating on behalf of their family as they sought suitable accommodation.
The couple also acknowledged the ongoing support of Cathy Scott and the Multiple Births Association, thanking them for their continued guidance and assistance during what has been an extraordinary journey.
While welcoming the reinstatement of the rental assistance, the family said their long-term housing needs remain unresolved.
They are still searching for a suitable permanent home capable of accommodating their family of ten.
The Na'amoanas said donations received through their official GoFundMe campaign continue to play a vital role in helping meet the significant costs associated with caring for four premature newborn babies alongside their older children.
Funds raised will assist with the purchase of a sufficiently large family vehicle, four baby capsules and prams, specialised equipment for premature babies, medical and hospital travel, moving expenses, housing costs and the day-to-day expenses of raising a large family.
The family said they are maintaining careful records of all donations received and how the funds are being used, adding that they will continue providing updates as their daughters grow stronger and their housing situation progresses.
In their message, the family also expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported them through donations, by sharing their story, offering practical assistance or remembering them in their prayers.
"Your kindness means more to us than words can express," the family said.
