With ONE MORE DAY left for registerations, we are pleased to announce three more guest speakers for the Women and Youth session at the inaugural Papua New Guinea–Solomon Islands Investment Conference, taking place next week on 19–20 August 2026 at Heritage Park Hotel.
The session will feature Limahl Totogi, President of Young Entrepreneurship Council of Solomon Islands; Dalcy Tekulu, Board member of SIWIBA; and Vani Nades, Founder and CEO of Emstret Holdings.
They will discuss opportunities for women and youth in cross-border trade and investment under the theme "From Opportunity to Investment: Building the PNG–Solomon Islands Growth Corridor".
“These inspiring leaders will share their experiences and insights on empowering women and youth to participate in the growing economic partnership between our two Melanesian neighbors,” said SICCI Chairlady Namoi Kaluae.

UNPLANNED SHUTDOWN - KONGULAI SOURCE CLOSED
Solomon Water would like to inform our valued customers that due to high turbidity caused by current heavy rainfall in the catchment area, water supply from our Kongulai source is closed until further notice.
Turbidity is a measurement of how cloudy the water is in surface water sources and can be caused by silt, mud, algae, or other particles in the water.
The action to turn off supply is necessary to ensure we do not supply water that is unsafe for drink or use. Our disinfection process cannot kill any bacteria when there is high turbidity which makes it unsafe and poses health risks to customers. High turbidity in water will also clog pipes and customers facilities.
Most customers feeding from Kongulai will experience low pressure or no water. Customers currently receiving water are advised to boil all water for drinking or consumption.
We are currently monitoring the source turbidity and we will keep you informed.

Solomon Airlines is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Mrs Mavis Tom, Reservations Systems Manager, who has won two major honours at the 2026 Australian Aviation Awards — Female Aviation Leader of the Year – SME and Rising Star – SME.
Presented in Sydney on Thursday, 6 August 2026, the awards recognise Mavis’ exceptional leadership, technical expertise, and contribution to aviation systems and operations.
Mavis’ achievement highlights the growing recognition of Pacific aviation professionals on the international stage and reflects the expertise and dedication of the Solomon Airlines team.
With eight years at Solomon Airlines, Mavis has played a key role in strengthening the airline’s international operations through her work supporting critical aviation systems, including check-in, boarding, baggage reconciliation, and flight departure processes.
She has led major technology initiatives, including the Departure Control System (DCS) migration at Brisbane Airport from SITA to the Amadeus ACUS cloud-based platform, as well as systems implementation in Auckland supporting immigration and visa compliance requirements.
Mavis also independently implemented Baggage Reconciliation Systems across multiple international ports, including Nadi, Port Vila, Auckland, Brisbane, Honiara, Christchurch, and Port Moresby, strengthening baggage tracking, operational safety, and passenger experience.
Speaking after receiving the awards, Mavis said she was honoured by the recognition and grateful for the support of her colleagues and partners.
“I am incredibly honoured to receive these awards. Over eight years with Solomon Airlines, I have worked on complex aviation systems across multiple international airports. I am grateful to my team and partners, and I hope this recognition encourages more women across the Pacific to pursue careers in aviation and technology.”

The Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) and the Pacific Community (SPC) have jointly presented the outcomes of the 2026 Fisheries Ministers Meetings to the Forum Officials Committee (FOC) in Suva, Fiji.
FFA Director-General Noan David Pakop and SPC Deputy Director-General Dr Andrew Jones delivered the joint presentation during the FOC Meeting, highlighting the key fisheries and aquaculture agreed by the Ministers, including the Vakamanu Regional Pacific Fisheries Strategy 2026-2035, which will be presented to Pacific Islands Forum Leaders for consideration and endorsement.
The Vakamanu Strategy, adopted by Fisheries Ministers in Wellington, New Zealand in July 2026, is the Pacific region’s new overarching fisheries and aquaculture framework for the next decade. It brings offshore fisheries, coastal fisheries, and aquaculture together under a single regional 10-year framework.
The name Vakamanu is a Niuean term which refers to a flock of birds hovering above a school of fish — a symbol of abundance and hope. Drawing on the blue Pacific concept of vaka (canoe) and manu (birds), the Strategy embodies unity in one canoe and shared responsibility for the region’s fisheries resources.
Mr Pakop said the Strategy provides Pacific Leaders with holistic oversight of the management and development of the region’s fisheries and aquaculture resources.
“Fisheries and aquaculture are not a sectoral issue – they are a strategic regional resource, underpinning government revenue, food security, livelihoods, and the practical expression of our Members’ sovereignty and stewardship of the ocean,” Mr Pakop told the FOC.
“It is therefore important that Leaders continue to have holistic oversight over the management and development of this critical resource. The Vakamanu Strategy is the vehicle by which Leaders are able to exercise that oversight.”
The presentation underscored the significance of the region’s fisheries, noting that tuna generates approximately USD 500 million in access fees and USD 1.2 billion in export earnings annually, while coastal fisheries support the livelihoods of up to one-third of Pacific households.
With Pacific tuna stocks remaining among the healthiest in the world, Mr Pakop said FFA is shifting its focus to value retention and economic development through the East New Britain Initiative (ENBi) and the FFA Strategic Plan 2026 2031.
The joint presentation reflects the close partnership between FFA and SPC in supporting Pacific Island countries to achieve sustainable fisheries, resilient coastal communities and long-term economic prosperity.
The outcomes of the 2026 Fisheries Ministers Meetings, together with the Vakamanu Regional Pacific Fisheries Strategy 2026–2035, will now be considered by Pacific Islands Forum Leaders during their meeting in Koror, Palau from 30 August – 4 September 2026.

FFA总干事诺安·大卫·帕科普(Noan David Pakop)和SPC副总干事安德鲁·琼斯博士(Dr Andrew Jones)在FOC会议上进行了联合报告,强调了部长们达成的关键渔业和水产养殖协议,包括《2026-2035年瓦卡曼努区域太平洋渔业战略》,该战略将提交给太平洋岛国论坛领导人审议和批准。
《瓦卡曼努战略》于2026年7月在新西兰惠灵顿由渔业部长通过,是未来十年太平洋地区新的总体渔业和水产养殖框架。它将离岸渔业、沿海渔业和水产养殖整合在一个区域性的十年框架下。
“瓦卡曼努”是一个纽埃语词,指的是在鱼群上方盘旋的一群鸟——象征着丰盈和希望。该战略借鉴了蓝色太平洋的概念,结合了“vaka”(独木舟)和“manu”(鸟),体现了在同一独木舟中的团结和对区域渔业资源的共同责任。
帕科普先生表示,该战略为太平洋领导人提供了对区域渔业和水产养殖资源管理与发展的全面监督。
“渔业和水产养殖不是一个部门问题——它们是一个战略性的区域资源,支撑着政府收入、食品安全、生计,以及我们成员国对海洋的主权和管理的实际体现,”帕科普先生在FOC上说道。
“因此,领导人继续对这一关键资源的管理和发展进行全面监督是非常重要的。《瓦卡曼努战略》是领导人能够行使这种监督的工具。”
报告强调了该地区渔业的重要性,指出金枪鱼每年产生约5亿美元的准入费和12亿美元的出口收入,而沿海渔业则支持了多达三分之一的太平洋家庭的生计。
随着太平洋金枪鱼资源仍然是全球最健康的资源之一,帕科普先生表示,FFA正在将重点转向通过东新不列颠倡议(ENBi)和FFA战略计划2026-2031实现价值保留和经济发展。
此次联合报告反映了FFA与SPC之间的紧密合作,旨在支持太平洋岛国实现可持续渔业、韧性沿海社区和长期经济繁荣。
2026年渔业部长会议的成果以及《2026-2035年瓦卡曼努区域太平洋渔业战略》将于2026年8月30日至9月4日在帕劳科罗尔举行的太平洋岛国论坛领导人会议上进行审议。

Our Resident Representative, Tuya Altangerel received a delegation from Vanuatu Electoral Commission and Vanuatu Electoral Office as they travelled to Fiji to complete the formalities ahead of their participation in UNDP Global Conference on Responsible AI in Elections.
The visit provided an opportunity to discuss Vanuatu path towards modernization of Vanuatu electoral roll, which in line with the 2023 Electoral reforms anchors the voter registration in an upgraded Civil Registry system based on unique identity number. This modernization also provides bases for future interoperability of government services bringing the government closer to the citizens as well as for further upgrades of electoral administration aimed to increase transparency and access to electoral services.

Proposals are invited in response to Request for Proposal (RFP Ref No: CP01_2627 from suitably qualified and experienced service providers to be appointed as Electronic Reporting (ER) Technicians (2 service providers will be appointed).
To enable you to submit a proposal for this work, please find enclosed:

• Annex II: Terms of Reference, containing a description of FFA’s requirements for which these services are being sought.
• Annex III: FFA Standard Conditions of Contract
