Two staff members from Chung Wah School recently represented the school at the Seminar on Management Capacity Enhancement in Primary and Secondary Schools in Developing Countries, held at Zhejiang Normal University in Jinhua, Zhejiang Province, China, from 9 to 22 May 2026.
The three-week professional development program was sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China under the Chinese Embassy in Solomon Islands; and organized and hosted by Zhejiang Normal University. Chung Wah School was represented by Mrs. Gwenda Manson-Isaac, Deputy Principal, and Ms. Rossitta Notere, Assessment Coordinator and Secondary Teacher.
The seminar brought together education professionals from developing countries to strengthen knowledge and skills in educational leadership, school management, teaching and learning improvement, and education policy development. Participants attended a series of lectures, workshops, field studies, and educational visits aimed at enhancing management capacity and promoting international collaboration in education.
Among the key topics covered were teacher education systems and policies, the use of artificial intelligence and information technology in education, gender equality, school leadership and management, educational reforms, and innovative teaching practices. Participants also explored China's approach to modernization and educational development.
As part of the program, the delegates visited several educational and cultural institutions, including the First Affiliated School of Hangzhou No. 2 High School, the Primary School Affiliated to Zhejiang Normal University, Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, Jinhua Museum, West Lake in Hangzhou, and the Yiwu International Trade Centre. These visits provided first-hand insights into China's education system, technological advancements, cultural heritage, and the connection between education and national development.
Reflecting on the experience, Mrs. Isaac and Ms. Notere highlighted the value of student-centred learning, effective school leadership, ICT integration, and strong policy implementation in achieving quality education. They noted that many of the practices observed during the seminar could be adapted to strengthen teaching and learning in Solomon Islands schools.
The experience also provided opportunities to build professional networks and exchange ideas with fellow educators from different countries, fostering international cooperation and collaboration in education.
Chung Wah School expressed its sincere appreciation to the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, Zhejiang Normal University, the professors, translators, and volunteers who made the program a success. The school believes that the knowledge and experiences gained through the seminar will contribute positively to improving educational practices and strengthening leadership capacity within the institution.
The participation of Chung Wah School staff in this international seminar reflects the school's commitment to continuous professional development and its vision of providing quality education that prepares students for the demands of the 21st century.

这项为期三周的专业发展项目由中华人民共和国商务部在中国驻所罗门群岛大使馆支持下主办，浙江师范大学承办。中华学校由副校长 Gwenda Manson-Isaac 女士和评估协调员兼中学教师 Rossitta Notere 女士代表参加。
研修班汇集了来自发展中国家的教育专业人士，旨在加强他们在教育领导、学校管理、教学改进和教育政策制定方面的知识和技能。参会者参加了一系列讲座、工作坊、实地调研和教育参访，以提升管理能力并促进国际教育合作。
重点议题包括教师教育体系与政策、人工智能和信息技术在教育中的应用、教育性别平等、学校领导与管理、教育改革以及创新教学实践。参会者还了解了中国的现代化和教育发展路径。
作为项目的一部分，代表团参访了杭州二中附属第一学校、浙江师范大学附属小学、上海博物馆、上海科技馆、金华市博物馆、杭州西湖和义乌国际商贸城等教育和文化机构。这些参访让代表们直接了解中国教育体系、科技进步、文化遗产，以及教育与国家发展之间的联系。
回顾此次经历，Isaac 女士和 Notere 女士强调，以学生为中心的学习、有效的学校领导、信息与通信技术整合以及有力的政策落实，对实现优质教育具有重要价值。她们指出，在研修期间观察到的许多实践都可以因地制宜地用于加强所罗门群岛学校的教学。
此次经历也为她们提供了建立专业网络、与不同国家教育工作者交流理念的机会，促进了教育领域的国际合作与协作。
中华学校衷心感谢中华人民共和国商务部、浙江师范大学，以及所有教授、翻译和志愿者对项目成功举办所作的贡献。学校相信，从研修班获得的知识和经验将有助于改进教育实践，并加强学校内部的领导能力。

The Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development released the 2025 national examinations performance by students and schools. SIBC reported improved access to secondary education: year 9 progression to year 10 reached 84.1%, year 11 transition reached 44.7%, and year 12 access rose to 19%. National pass rates were 52.9% for year 9, 65% for year 11, and 53.8% for year 12, while mathematics and science at year 9 and mathematics at year 11 remained areas of concern.

To all my former students as some of you may know, my late son Getald died on my birthday in 2017. Since then I haven't celebrated my birthday. However this year I will be 75 have failing health and would like to celebrate a birthday while im still capable of enjoying it. I was hoping to have a party where we all bring food and drink to share. No alcohol, and come together to share memories. Maybe a lot of laughs maybe a few tears. The years I was at Chung Wah 1976 to 1978, 1991 to 1994 1997 to 2010. Please let me know if this is a possibility and if anyone has any ideas. Its not until June so there's plenty of time. Love and God's blessing to you all. I know to some i was the dragon of the school but i truly loved you all, even the naughty ones, maybe especially the naughty ones.

Date: 21 December-30 December 2025
Duration: 10 days
Location: Guangdong, China
Camper requirements:
- Age: 12-25 years old
- Participants must be physically and mentally healthy
- Flight ticket fare: SBD $25,000.00. Accommodation and meals will be fully covered by the organizer. Any remaining balance will be refunded after the tickets are purchased.
- Handling fee: SBD $1,000.00
